Income inequality and environmental degradation

Juncture and Ngā Ara Whetū co-hosted a symposium on two grand challenges of our time – environmental degradation and income inequality. The event included critical discussion about these challenges and the groundbreaking work of French economist Thomas Piketty, Centennial Professor of Economics in the International Inequalities Institute at the London School of Economics. Pre-symposium Piketty primer

A very short introductory reading group (‘primer’) was held on the economist Thomas Piketty prior to the Juncture and Ngā Ara Whetū Symposium: Income inequality and environmental degradation. It was open to anyone who wanted to learn more or get an overview of Piketty in light of the symposium and/or for general interest. The group was led by Emeritus Professor Nigel Haworth (Management and International Business) and Dr Sasha Maher (Management and International Business).

This event was a conversation on the corporation and governance that explored the relevance of Inclusive Capitalism to Aotearoa New Zealand. It was a joint event for the Aotearoa Centre for Leadership and Governance and Juncture: Dialogues on Inclusive Capitalism Centre.
Conference on Perspectives on the Corporation
24-26 June 2024
Juncture co-hosted a conference on the topic, Perspectives on the Corporation, with The University of Edinburgh and Monash Law‘s Centre for Commercial Law and Regulatory Studies (CLARS) in Edinburgh. The conference took place from June 24-26, 2024, and featured seven panels with multiple presenters discussing various aspects and perspectives on the corporate form.
The Elephant in the Room – Disciplinary Perspectives on the Corporation

The workshop borrowed its name from the parable of the blind men and the elephant – with the idea that we might learn from how different disciplines view the corporate form. The day included speakers of multiple disciplines including perspectives from law, economics, management, political theology, and sustainability.
